It is no secret that many forest products based businesses have been struggling. Some have closed their doors. The American West has been particularly hard hit. Environmental concerns have restricted access to government owned timber for decades and, recently, insect infestation has left millions of acres of mature timber standing dead on the stump. Still, some companies – companies using innovative approaches to produce forest products – are weathering, and even prospering during the downturn and, at the slightest hint of improved market conditions, expect business to flourish.
One such company, Wasatch Timber Products, Inc., based here, was founded in 1997 by Chip Turner. According to Turner, Wasatch’s ongoing success “is based on a reputation for producing an array of unique, quality products, providing exceptional customer service and utilizing readily available materials in environmentally responsible ways.”
Wasatch primarily processes standing dead trees from Utah’s beetle infested forests to produce unique and custom wood products for log and timber homes.
