Took down a tree on your property? Have logs or old timbers sitting in the yard? Haul them to our mill in Heber City and we'll saw them into finished dimensional lumber, live-edge slabs, beams and timbers, or peeled and milled logs — your wood, cut to your dimensions.
Wasatch Timber Products has been milling in the Heber Valley for over 30 years. Whether it's one sentimental walnut out of the back yard or a truckload of fir off a build site, we'll tell you straight what's in it and what it'll cost before a blade touches wood.
What we can cut for you
Dimensional lumber
Standard boards sawn to your spec — 1x, 2x, 4x and up. Siding stock, decking, trim, framing lumber, project boards. Rough sawn, or surfaced if you want it smooth.
Live-edge slabs
Wide slabs for tabletops, benches, counters, bar tops and mantels. Cut at the thickness you want, bark edge left intact. Big-diameter logs are where the real slabs come from.
Beams & timbers
Structural timbers, posts, trusses, mantels and large-dimension cuts — boxed heart or free of heart center depending on the log and what you're building.
Logs
Want it to stay a log? We'll cut to length, peel, and mill it for railing, entries, gates, fencing or accent work.
Already have milled wood that needs work? We also resaw, edge and surface lumber and timbers you've had sitting. Ask us.
What it costs
Every log is different, so we quote each job — but here's the ballpark so you know what you're walking into.

Most single-tree jobs land between $XXX and $XXX. Final price depends on species, diameter, length, how clean the log is, and what you want out of it. We'll give you a firm number before we start.
Blade damage. Nails, fence wire, bullets and embedded rock are the number one hazard in yard trees, and they destroy sawmill blades. If we hit metal in your log, damaged blades are billed at $XX each. Please look your logs over before you haul them up — see the checklist below.

Before you load the trailer
Good candidates
- Trunk sections at least X" diameter and X' long
- Cut square on both ends, not at a wedge
- Freshly felled — green logs saw far better than sun-checked ones
- Knocked free of dirt and rocks; a quick rinse helps a lot
- Longer than your finished piece by at least a foot for trim
Problems we can't saw around
- Yard trees with nails, eye bolts, fence staples or old wire grown in
- Logs over X" diameter or X' long — past our mill's capacity
- Heavy rot, hollow centers or logs that have sat on the ground for years
- Root balls and stump cuts full of embedded gravel
- Painted, treated or creosote timbers
One honest warning. Nobody knows what's inside a log until it's opened. Rot, ring shake, ingrown metal and stress that twists boards as they come off the mill are all possible. We'll do our best by your wood, but we can't guarantee yield or grade on customer logs, and milling time is billed whether or not the log turns out the way we both hoped.
Common questions
How much lumber will I get out of my tree?
Less than most people expect. A log's widest board is narrower than the log, and you lose material to the slab edges, the saw kerf and any trimming. As a rough feel, a straight 20" diameter log at 10' will often yield somewhere near 100–130 board feet. We'll give you a real estimate once we see photos and measurements.
Can I watch you mill my log?
We get why you'd want to — it's a good show. For safety and scheduling reasons we generally mill without spectators, but ask when you book and we'll see what we can arrange.
Do you dry the lumber?
Wood comes off our mill green unless you arrange drying. Air drying runs roughly a year per inch of thickness and needs to be stacked and stickered correctly right away or it'll cup, twist and check on you. Ask us about drying options and we'll walk you through what makes sense for your project.
How should I stack slabs when I get them home?
Flat, off the ground, stickered every 16–24 inches with dry spacers, weighted on top, under cover but with air moving through. Sealing the end grain slows the checking. Do this the day you pick it up, not next weekend.
Can you come mill at my place instead?
Our custom milling runs at our Heber City yard — you haul the logs to us. Call if your situation is unusual and we'll talk about it.
What species do you work with?
Most of what comes through is Doug fir, pine, spruce and aspen, but we're happy to see hardwoods — walnut, maple, oak, elm and box elder all make beautiful slabs. Tell us what you've got.
I only want part of it. Can you keep the rest?
Sometimes, depending on the species and quality. Mention it when you get your quote and we may be able to trade value against your bill.
