Log Rot Repair
How It Works
Identify Wood Decay
First step is identifying areas of concern or actual wood decay. This can be found using a small mallet tap around logs or wood that is exposed to moisture. Listen for a hollow sound rather than solid sound on impact. Decay can also be identified if there are areas of discolored dark stain indicating moisture buildup underneath the stain.
Measuring Replacement Logs
Second step is to get good solid measurements of the Logs or wood that you are replacing due to decay. Call Wasatch Timber to place your order. Wasatch Timber Products provides custom dimensions and textures to meet your needs. We have multiple textures to choose from. Raw, Milled, Hand peeled, Milled & Peeled, and Rough Sawn. We also have Sawing & Lathing capabilities up to 32' long.

Wall Log Rot
Log Rot found in wall logs due to paint. The paint is not allowing them to breath and trapping moisture. Always best to use a breathable semi-transparent stain like Sashco's Log & Timber Oil Based Stain.
Vertical Post Rot
Log Rot found in a vertical post on a home here in Utah. This is due to trapped moisture from the log being encase in rock, rather than being installed on top.
Window Rot
This was most likely caused by heavy moisture accumulation from rain and snow sitting on unprotected wood. In turn Causing wood decay and rot.
